Solid Wood Kitchens in Pale Powder: March’s Colour of the Month

Pale Powder - March’s Colour of the Month

Spring is here: the days are getting lighter, the evenings longer and the sun has finally returned to bathe us in dazzling natural light. March’s ‘Colour of the Month’ comes as a complement to the natural world in the form of Farrow & Ball’s Pale Powder – a much lighter shade of green than the popular ‘Vert De Terre’ from the Accents range.

Perfect for east-facing rooms, Pale Powder is an ideal accent to the blue hue that often comes from early-morning light, whilst not appearing too cold and retaining the warmth of the dawn. Combining cool blue-greens like this shade with wood of darker shades (such as our walnut or iroko wooden kitchen worktops) can be valuable, and will help achieve the best balance of brightness throughout the day.

Firmly in the realms of ‘duck egg’ colouring, Pale Powder can look closer to blue in some lights, and pale green at other times of day, adding real airiness to any solid wood kitchens that aren’t blessed with south-facing light.

If you’re interested in seeing what the finished colour looks like outside of your computer’s screen, we recommend taking advantage of our great-value sample service – or even better, pop in to our Gloucester showroom and familiarise yourself with our entire Farrow & Ball collection.

Spring/Summer Trends for Solid Wood Kitchens in 2014

Trends for Solid Wood Kitchens 2014

Here at Solidwoodkitchencabinets.co.uk, we like to keep up with the trends. As such, we’ve been consulting design resources carefully over the last six months, trying to envisage the key looks for spring and summer kitchens in 2014.

Though there are a variety of different aesthetics that are popping up in glossy magazines, television programmes and on the catwalk, there is one theme that seems to tie them all together: ‘Transformation and Transportation’. Whether you wish to go to the natural world, to an exotic country, or even back to your childhood, the hottest interior styles aim to take you there. Read on for more information regarding how this can be achieved with solid wood kitchens

In terms of materials, experts advise prioritising the natural over the artificial. Style gurus at Trendbible.com advise that ‘this trend is the antidote to quick-fix culture, it replenishes and embraces the slow burn, mindfulness and honesty of bare, raw materials […] the home becomes a reflection of our desire to be closer to nature, so natural materials are introduced in their raw state’. By utilising solid oak cabinetry throughout your kitchen, you can nod to the natural trend whilst enjoying the superb quality afforded by this wonderful material. You can also introduce a hint of the exotic – another popular look – by accessorising with dramatic solid wood worktops and plinths: zebrano and iroko work particularly well with oak doors.

In terms of colour, a sense of whimsy prevails. Light, pastel colours – spring-like in essence – with a ‘chalky’ feel are popular, along with the odd frivolous pop of primary colour to create unexpected bursts of vitality. We recommend pairing hand-finished frontals in Parma Grey, Cinder Rose or Mizzle with dramatic accent shades – Farrow & Ball’s Yellowcake or St Giles Blue would be good choices.

If you’re not sure which colour to go for, never fear: we have collated a standard collection of Farrow & Ball shades, specifically chosen with the aim of complementing oak cabinets. Consult these at your leisure by visiting our kitchen unit doors pages or test your colour scheme out for yourself by ordering some samples: our door samples are affordably-priced, available in all house finishes and are made to order.
