At Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, the work we do to support our local community is incredibly important to us. Our founding director, Martyn Rees, has links with a local ballet school in Gloucestershire and through this relationship we have sponsored an up and coming ballerina, Lucy Waine. We caught up with Lucy during the Easter break to discuss some exciting news about her future at the Royal Ballet School.
Now aged just 16, Lucy began dancing over a decade ago with the Sally Prout School of Dancing, and was selected as one of twelve girls to attend the Royal Ballet Lower School at the age of eleven. Following years of hard work and training, Lucy has recently been successful in earning a place at the Royal Ballet Upper School. She will commute from the school residence in Pimlico to the school in Covent Garden, opposite the Royal Opera House, where Lucy says that “the hours will become much more intense”, but she is looking forward to doing “more advanced work”.
Whilst at the Royal Ballet Lower School, Lucy was selected to dance in a piece by Liam Scarlett, a world renowned choreographer with the company. Her progression to the upper school will afford a number of opportunities in the future, as graduates often go on to dance with the world’s leading dance companies. In the 3 years Lucy will spend at the upper school, she will also have the chance to be involved in productions with the Royal heritage groups and told us: “The school does a performance at the Opera House every summer, which is a really nice opportunity to be seen and get on stage.”
We would like to congratulate Lucy on her success in being awarded a place at the Royal Ballet Upper School and wish her all the success for the future. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter if you would like to stay up to date with Lucy’s progress!
