A Frontal Accessories Guide for Oak Kitchens
It would be easy to install solid wood kitchen cabinets and wooden worktops and declare a kitchen complete, but there are plenty of accessories that should be considered in order to give your kitchen the ‘finished’ look that it deserves.
Our selection of end panels, pilasters, corner posts, cornices & pelmets, along with our brand new oak plate racks, provide the details required to finish your kitchen in style. All of our frontal accessories are crafted from solid oak and so beautifully match the quality of our oak cabinets, and blend in seamlessly with our worktops – no matter what species you choose. Of course, they can also be painted in one of Farrow & Ball’s exquisite colours, depending on your desired look.
End Panels
Our solid oak end panels are the perfect finishing touch for a run of kitchen cabinets, giving a much more aesthetically pleasing look than a bare end cabinet would otherwise. They’re available in two different designs: standard and tongue & groove. The standard oak end panels are made of the same beautiful timber as we use on our 27mm thick oak worktops, and so provide a seamless finish – particularly if you have an oak worktop.
At 18mm, our tongue & groove end panels are thinner than the standard option, but are the perfect finishing touch for a kitchen with a more traditional, country look. If you’re after a thinner panel without the grooves, then these panels can be mounted in reverse with a smooth surface facing outwards. They can either be left sanded, lacquered for a natural look, or painted in a Farrow & Ball colour of your choosing.
Pilasters
Whilst our oak cabinets are rather lovely when compared to composite alternatives, without the aid of a pilaster, there still may be gaps between cabinet doors. Pilasters do a grand job of filling in the gap, and are available in a wide selection of woods to match our solid wooden worktops. Everything from oak and beech to more exotic wenge, zebrano or even bamboo can be transformed into a beautiful matching pilaster for your kitchen.
Standard square pilasters come in 18, 27 and 40mm widths, to suit a variety of frontal applications, but we also provide three more ornate styles measuring 50mm wide. All our pilasters can be painted in a Farrow & Ball paint of your choosing, but also – thanks to their solid hardwood construction – these items can be supplied oiled or lacquered for a hard-wearing, natural finish.
Corner Posts
Our standard corner posts are available in either a traditional or shaker design, to suit whichever look you are looking to achieve in your new kitchen. Our kitchen corner posts are made of solid oak and can be finished in a natural sanded, lacquered finish, or painted in any of the Farrow & Ball colours we offer.
Alternatively, you can use one of our pilasters as a corner post – it really depends on your kitchen cabinet layout. As you can see in the photograph above, corner posts work best in conjunction with our specialist corner cabinets, whilst pilasters work well when alternative cabinets or appliances are used in a corner.
Cornices & Pelmets
Wall-mounted cabinets are fantastic for adding extra storage in a kitchen, especially if floor space is limited. Bare wall cabinets, however, often feel like they’re missing a special finishing touch to make them blend in with the rest of the kitchen.
Our cornices and pelmets are the ideal finishing touch for wooden wall cabinets. Cornices sit on top of the cabinet, extending decoratively outwards, whilst pelmets give the impression of a solid base for the cabinet. Both are available in either shaker or traditional finishes, and are available for both square and curved wall cabinets.
As with all our other frontal accessories, they can be left in a natural sanded finish, lacquered, or painted in the Farrow & Ball colour of your choice.
Oak Plate Racks
Store your dinnerware in style with our solid oak plate racks. They’re made to fit into almost any cabinet, but of course are most elegant fitted inside our solid oak wall cabinets. They’re designed to keep plates upright, which is far more hygienic and will help your crockery last for longer than if stacked in a drawer or cupboard.
They’re provided in lengths of 1200mm to comfortably hold 24 plates, but can easily be cut down to size to fit a variety of cabinet widths. Like other frontal accessories, the choice is yours when it comes to finish. Buy oak plate racks in either a natural sanded or lacquered finish, or have them painted to match your cabinet doors in any of Farrow & Ball’s colours.
As you can see, there’s a wealth of frontal accessories that are perfect for adding a finishing touch to any of our oak kitchens. If you’d like to see any of these accessories in a kitchen environment, they are all on display in our Gloucester showroom, in one of our nine kitchen scenes. Alternatively, if you’d like to find out more about any of the products featured, feel free to get in touch.
