A Guide to Worktop Installation Accessories in Solid Oak Kitchens
At Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, though our name may suggest otherwise, we do not only specialise in oak kitchen cabinets. We also sell a wide range of wooden kitchen worktops and related accessories, providing our customers with a ‘one-stop shop’ for gorgeous solid oak kitchens.
Whilst choosing the worktops may be a tough decision, choosing which accessories you will require to install them is a much easier task, given that you have all the information required about each installation component. Keep on reading to learn more about all the accessories in our range.
Rustins Danish Oil
Although timber is a hard-wearing material, we always recommend treating it with Rustins Danish Oil, which will accentuate the colour whilst creating a water-resistant, lustrous finish. Regular treatment is essential for protecting the timber and maintaining its condition.
Rustins Danish Oil is available in 1L, 2.5L and 5L capacities, with a 1L tin suitable for coating a worktop up to 3M in length.
Moisture Barrier
If you are situating any appliances beneath your worktops that give off excess moisture or heat, we suggest using our protective, sticky-back moisture barrier on the underside of your worktop.
Moisture barriers are provided in 1M x 750mm x 3mm sections and can easily be cut to size.
Worktop Installation Kit
To join two worktops together, or to attach them to your kitchen cabinetry, we suggest purchasing our Worktop Installation Kit. This kit comprises of 3 worktop connector bolts, a tungsten carbide tipped router cutter, a tube of mitre seal, 50 wood screws and 10 slotted cabinet brackets.
If you are joining more than two worktops, you may require additional slotted brackets and worktop connector bolts.
Worktop Aftercare Kit
For the ongoing maintenance required to keep wooden worktops in tip-top condition, we recommend using our Worktop Aftercare Kit.
This kit includes 4 foam oiling brushes and 5 denibbing pads for light sanding. You will also need to purchase a suitable quantity of Rustins Danish Oil to apply a fresh coat to your worktop.
Worktop Hotrod Set
To provide an area where you can set down hot pots and pans, our stainless steel hotrods are ideal. These rods sit into routed grooves in the worktop and prevent the wood from being discoloured due to excess heat.
Our worktop hotrod set includes 5 x 12mm diameter hotrods to create a diamond formation on your worktop. These are also available in a linear formation.
Worktop Jigs
If you need to cut your worktops to size, we advise using one of our worktop jigs. Available in either 700mm or 900mm sizes, these jigs are perfect for cutting worktops or routing worktop connector bolts, and include a set of pegs to easily position the jig.
Unlike some others on the market – which can sometimes be cheaper but of poorer quality – our jigs are coated in solid laminate to prevent warping.
Worktop Router Cutter
Planning on cutting wooden worktops? If you have equipped yourself with one of the worktop jigs above, then you will want a quality worktop router cutter to make quick work of our hardwood surfaces.
This ½” tungsten carbide-tipped router cutter is twin flute, which allows for efficient and smooth cutting, no matter how dense the timber.
