“Is there more upkeep required for painted wooden kitchen cabinets or lacquered ones?” Question of the Week 19/02/2017
Is there more upkeep required for painted wooden kitchen cabinets or lacquered ones?”
This week’s question has been sent in by Nancy in Somerset, who wants to know about the levels of maintenance required for different cabinet frontal finishes.
‘I’m looking to buy some solid wood cabinets from you, but before I choose my finish I’d like to know if the upkeep required for painted wooden kitchen cupboard doors is more demanding than that which is needed for lacquered wooden cabinets.’
Thank you for getting in touch – maintenance and upkeep are important considerations when you’re planning a new kitchen, so you’re doing the right thing!
Painted wooden kitchen cabinets can look fantastic in a variety of settings. We have a number of bespoke colour options available to suit different styles and we are also able to paint our cabinet frontals in any of the shades from Farrow & Ball’s extended range. Our painted options still allow the grain of the wood to show through; however, if you would prefer a more natural look, we also offer a lacquered finish that really highlights the natural hues of solid oak.
Whilst there are a number of things that you can do to minimise the effects of daily wear and tear – as outlined in our guide on caring for your cabinets – eventually all kitchens show signs of ageing. The preventative steps you can take will be the same for both lacquered and painted wooden kitchen units; but ultimately a painted cabinet will start to show signs of wear sooner, as the colour will make it more obvious – meaning that it may be necessary for you to repaint your frontals.
We hope this has helped you make your decision – please keep us posted! Indeed, we would love to see how your new cabinets look once installed, so do feel free to share some photos with us on Facebook or Instagram!
