“What are shaker kitchen cabinets?” Question of the Week 25.06.17
“What are shaker kitchen cabinets?”
Our ‘Question of the Week’ has been sent in from Hastings, where Judy would like to know more about the types of cabinet frontals we offer.
QUESTION:
“I’m redesigning my kitchen and I’ve come across the term ‘shaker’ a lot. What are shaker kitchen cabinets?”
ANSWER:
Hello Judy,
Thank you for getting in touch with us – there are a lot of new words and phrases you’ll come across when designing a new kitchen, so it is understandable that you may need a little clarification! All of our cabinetry is the same, so ‘Shaker kitchen cabinets’ are actually just oak units with Shaker cabinet frontals.
At Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets we have two different options for doors, either Shaker frontals as mentioned above, or Traditional frontals. Shaker frontals have a simple, sleek design which has its roots in the Shaker movement that appeared in the early 1700s. We wrote a little about the history of Shaker designs – even though it is deeply rooted in history, Shaker style kitchens are incredibly popular due to their minimalistic features which makes them a great choice for contemporary designs. Our Traditional frontals have a classic farmhouse design and look great in country style kitchens.
Our Shaker cabinet frontals are constructed from four lengths of oak, with a solid panel in the middle that is slightly recessed from the outer ‘frame’, to provide some depth to the door. Typically, Shaker kitchen cabinets from any other manufacturer will be constructed in the same way, or with an incredibly similar design – the benefit of ordering with Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets is that all of our cabinetry is made from European solid oak.
We hope you now have enough information about Shaker kitchen cabinets to help you with your new kitchen plans – but please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!
Kind regards,
The Team @ Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets
