Here at Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, we are guided by you when it comes to colour, offering a ‘bespoke’ colour option so that we can handpaint our solid oak frontals exactly to your design – but we’re always curious to see what shades are setting the fashion world alight. It’s particularly interesting at this time of the year, when we’re on the cusp of a new season; and as the weather begins to take on an autumnal feel, it is perhaps no surprise to see reds, rusts and browns appearing in the season’s interiors.
Furthermore, one could argue that as the nights draw in, colour – particularly in interiors – becomes more important than ever. We need an injection of brightness during the colder months! Trends experts agree; indeed, Leatrice Eiseman, executive of the Pantone Colour Institute, comments: ‘Just as the leaves change in autumn, the consumer will enjoy the ability to change their ‘look’ and try a new approach […] for brisk days ahead. The fall 2013 palette allows for that versatility and experimentation.’
Pantone’s choice colours for Autumn / Winter 2013 are bold array of earthy blues and greens, deep reds, charcoals, and even orange. Koi, a season staple, is a vibrant, decorative orange taking its inspiration from the famously striking koi fish. Samba, another favourite, is a gutsy red.
Our colour of the month, Red Earth, lies somewhere in between the two: a vibrant, autumnal terracotta, this hue is the perfect nod to predicted colour trends and will add real warmth to any kitchen. Opt for Red Earth painted frontals and accent with seasonal golds and dark browns; alternatively, you could introduce a splash of Pantone’s colour of the year, Emerald, for a dazzling twist.

Traditional Lacquered Door
Achieving the perfect look for your kitchen in a ‘DIY’ fashion is easier than ever, thanks to all the fantastic, easy-to-install products currently sweeping the market; a category that includes our solid wood kitchen cabinets, we’re proud to say. Better still, you don’t have to compromise on style if you choose solid oak cabinets that are easy to install and extremely affordable – recent reports indicate that the popularity of the ‘solid wood look’ continues to increase.
Indeed, articles in the Wall Street Journal and other noted publications suggest that ‘solid wood fever’ isn’t just fashionable – it’s global! San Diego-based designer Lisa Wilson-Wirth indicates that this design movement may be connected to an increased focus on the natural world: ‘the locavore movement has sparked requests for kitchens that feel more connected to natural materials’. Whatever the reason, one only has to visit a design show or flip through the pages of a magazine to see that wooden kitchen cabinets have become a front-runner, outstripping alternatives that are crafted from laminate or glass.
The benefits of a solid wood kitchen are wide-ranging. A contemporary look is easy to attain with painted wood frontals or a feature island, while unpainted wood frontals – like our lacquered doors – create a traditional look that adds character and warmth to the kitchen, a room that is increasingly thought of as the heart of the home. This ‘authentic’ and ‘rustic’ appeal is not only aesthetically pleasing, but a sensible investment: fine-quality solid oak cabinets – the type supplied by Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets – will endure, allowing you to enjoy your chosen design scheme for years to come.
It’s been a busy summer so far at Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets: we’re pleased to report that our recent sale was a great success and that plenty of you will soon be enjoying some wonderful oak cabinetry!
As ever we have really appreciated hearing from customers regarding recent and successful purchases; best of all, quite a few customers have sent fabulous ‘before’ and ‘after’ pictures of their transformed kitchens, so that we can take a look for ourselves.
Several of these kitchen examples will be published online in the future as ‘case studies’. We’re designing a new section of the website that will be devoted solely to such studies, which we believe will give unique insight into our product range and the customer experience offered by Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets. Most importantly, we are confident that these case studies will really highlight the difference fine-quality cabinetry can make to a room.
Please watch this space for more details on this exciting new addition to solidwoodkitchencabinets.co.uk! In the meantime, if you would like more information on our products –or if you’d like to offer up your own kitchen as a case study – please visit our showroom, browse the website, or contact us.
