Here at Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, we are proud to supply stunning oak kitchens online at a fraction of the price charged by high-street kitchen stores. However, we appreciate that buying online can sometimes necessitate a ‘leap of faith’: but not with us! We have always offered a full sample service so that potential customers can enjoy the beauty of our products for themselves before committing to purchase. Samples are currently available for cabinets, doors, and worktops: everything you need to make your kitchen perfect!

Now, while it’s clear that we have a soft spot for oak cabinets and doors, thanks to our sister supplier Worktop Express® we can also provide superb quality timber work surfaces and samples to match. Worktop samples can be ordered in all timbers that we supply and in a range of thicknesses to match the worktops themselves (40mm and 27mm, for selected timbers). These are priced at just £5 including delivery and VAT: quite a bargain, we’re sure you will agree!

Cabinet samples are also perfect miniatures of the finished article, supplied as 160mm x 80mm x 18mm pieces of solid oak and lacquered in the same process as our full-size cabinet panels. Door samples, too, are available in a number of styles and finishes to reflect our range: both the Traditional and Shaker models can be purchased (in 350mm x 296mm sample sizes), and will be finished according to your preference (lacquered, sanded or hand finished in colours from the Farrow & Ball range).

Best of all, though we charge a small fee for each sample (to cover manufacture and delivery costs), if you go on to place an order some money can be claimed back. Please visit our samples page to learn more – we thoroughly recommend taking advantage of this excellent service.

Solid Wood Kitchens in Parma Gray: Usher in the Spring!

Posted by admin on February 19, 2014 at 12:15 pm. Filed under: Products
colour of the month - Parma Gray

Don’t know why there’s no sun up in the sky
Stormy weather

Keeps rainin’ all the time

The lyrics of the song quoted above – which was made famous by Billie Holliday – seem very apt for the UK in February 2014: we’ve seen plenty of storms and there are more forecast. Such dismal weather can make us a bit gloomy, and can also make going outside seem a bit of a chore – all the more reason to cheer up our insides!

And what better way to brighten up your interiors than with a fresh, spring-like kitchen colour? Farrow & Ball’s Parma Gray, a soft blue-grey reminiscent of duck eggshell, could be a perfect choice. Farrow & Ball describe the colour as timeless, taking inspiration from ‘1830’s and 1840’s schemes.’ Moreover, Farrow & Ball Marketing Director Sarah Cole comments that their key colours have been chosen to ‘create flow around the home, transforming the space into a nurturing refuge.’

Such a statement certainly applies to Parma Gray. This versatile shade complements the grain of our solid oak kitchen doors beautifully and breathes serenity into all solid wood kitchens – no matter what the colour scheme. Indeed, Parma Gray would work well as part of a grey colour scheme – set to be very popular in 2014 – or as the brightest shade within a palette of creams, cappuccinos and even chocolate brown.

If you would like to see an example of one of our doors finished in Parma Gray – or any other colour from the Farrow & Ball collection – please take advantage of our affordable sample service.

Love Your Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets on Valentine’s Day!

Love Kitchen Cabinets

February 14th is but a day away, and though we know all our Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets readers will be preparing to take care of their loved ones, we thought it was a good idea to remind you to give your cabinets a little bit of attention, too!

Here are some top ‘tender loving care’ tips for your cabinets:

Beautiful insides as well as outsides

It’s easy to forget the interiors of your solid oak kitchen cabinets when the outsides are so beautiful, but we recommend giving these a little pick-me-up at least once a year. Remove the contents of your cupboards and inspect the insides and shelves, stripping off old lining paper if necessary. Vacuum the insides gently.

Spring clean

Fill a basin with warm water and a little bit of soap (‘kind to hands’ or ‘sensitive’ varieties are best as these are more PH ‘neutral’ than standard options) and wipe the insides of your cabinets and both sides of the shelves thoroughly. Use a small toothbrush for the corners and scrub gently. Dry the wood immediately using a tea towel.

Pay attention to the nuts and bolts

Give your shelf brackets a checking over every once in a while. Look for any loosening/broken support holes and tighten any loose brackets.

Spruce up the doors

With warm water and a little bit of soap – as above – clean the outside of your oak unit doors thoroughly and use a small toothbrush to reach any mouldings or grooves. If your frontals are painted, a quick touch up will do wonders to restore its lustre. Keep a small pot of paint in your house and add this to your cabinet ‘kit’ – it will come in handy.

The good news about investing in a solid oak cabinet is that these are built to last; and best of all, they retain their stunning appearance, meaning that you can enjoy them for years to come. Only a small amount of maintenance is necessary for your cabinets to remain in optimum condition. If you’d like to witness the beauty of our cabinets yourself, please do not hesitate to take advantage of our affordable sample service or visit our showroom.
