Spotlight on Specialist Cabinets for Solid Wood Kitchens

Kitchens would be boring if every line was straight, and every cabinet the same. Fortunately you needn’t make do with an uncreative kitchen design if you are planning to purchase from Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets: our comprehensive range of specialist cabinetry allows you to create truly unique solid wood kitchens. Best of all, these specialist cabinets can be easily incorporated alongside our standard wood cabinets, and all match beautifully thanks to the superior solid European oak used throughout.

To finish a run of cabinets, why not consider our curved cabinets? They can be either left open to display your kitchen wares or finished with matching curved frontals. We also offer a curved cabinet suitable for wall-mounting.

Wine connoisseur? You’ll definitely want to contemplate the inclusion of a wine rack within your kitchen: we offer solid oak wine rack base cabinets in either a single 150mm wide configuration for 6 bottles, or in a double-width 300mm unit (capable of holding 12 bottles of your finest).

If you’re going for a classic country kitchen, you will no doubt have considered a Belfast sink. We can provide specialist cabinets that cater specifically for Belfast sinks from 450mm right up to 1200mm wide.

These units – along with a variety of oven housing cabinets, wall cabinets and open end cabinets – can be used to make an extremely versatile kitchen to match your available space and lifestyle needs.

Announcing our iPhone 6 Competition Winner!

The Goat

Over the last month we offered our customers the opportunity to win one of this year’s most coveted gadgets: an iPhone 6. All we asked in return was that customers enter by posting a photograph of their real wood kitchens on our Facebook page.

We were thrilled that so many of our customers got into the spirit and entered – resulting in some truly fantastic pictures of oak kitchens, all of which were made possible by using our products. Some were the stuff of show-homes such as Gavin Fisher’s fantastic blue kitchen, or Neil Refson’s natural wooden kitchen (pictured below) whilst others had guests you wouldn’t expect to find in a kitchen, such as Karen Askew’s pet goat…

The winner, who garnered over 120 likes by the time the competition ended, was… (drumroll please…)

Renate Jephcott! The Winner of the iPhone 6

It was clearly the curvy countertop that clinched it for Renate, who is quite rightly very proud of her kitchen. It features our oak kitchen cabinets, traditional door frontals and some beautifully finished Prime Oak worktops. Congratulations Renate, and feel free to send us more pictures of your kitchen taken with your brand new iPhone 6! The runner up, with a final tally of 77 likes, was Bridget Ann Hales’ kitchen: a full-on oak kitchen, featuring full stave oak and lacquered cabinets throughout. We’re big fans of the natural wooden kitchen, and clearly Bridget’s friends are, too!

We also decided to give a prize for our favourite photo in the competition, and after whittling it down to three entries, we turned it over to our panel of judges to decide. After much deliberation over the added-value of goats in a kitchen, it was decided that our favourite photo was Sally Reay’s colourful design, which combines full stave oak worktops with some bespoke painted doors in a variety of Farrow & Ball shades. Great job Sally!

Thanks to all others who entered the competition – we always enjoy seeing finished kitchens that make use of our products, and really appreciate you sharing your pictures with us. If you missed out on the competition this time, don’t worry, there will no doubt be more in the future. In the meantime, make sure you’re following our Facebook and Twitter pages to keep up with the latest news and views.

Save 10% on Solid Oak Kitchens with our ‘Amazing Autumn’

Autumn is a time to appreciate the beautiful colours of nature, as we transition from the growth of spring and summer into the hibernation of winter, and so it is the ideal time of year to create your new kitchen in preparation for the colder months. Our solid oak kitchens highlight the beauty of timber – and contain none of the composites and MDF cabinets that you will find in many high-street stores. This, coupled with solid oak doors and a variety of wooden worktops, can create a cosy natural kitchen that you can be truly proud of, at a fraction of the cost that other retailers can offer.

If this sounds like the kind of kitchen you are looking for, then now is the time to order: because we’re offering 10% off all cabinets and cabinet-related products until the 10th November. To take advantage of this fantastic saving, simply enter the code AUTUMN10 at the online checkout, or mention this to one of our helpful customer advisers when placing an order via email or telephone. Please note that worktops, worktop accessories and samples are not included in this promotion.

The sale runs until midnight on November 10th, so there is plenty of time to decide which cabinets and accessories you need to create a wonderful wooden kitchen. If you would like to see our products first-hand before placing an order, why not come and visit our Gloucester showroom? We have nine different kitchen setups with examples of all our different cabinet types on display, along with plenty of complementary appliances and accessories to inspire you.

October’s Kitchen Gadget of the Month

October’s Kitchen Gadget of the Month

October is here: and with it comes the chill of the autumn air. When the cold mornings and dark evenings start to draw in, there’s nothing better than preparing some homely comfort foods in solid wood kitchens to warm up your insides.

The Stirio auto pot stirrer from Norwegian kitchen experts Unikia is perfect for all ‘one-pot wonders’. With this kitchen gadget, never again will your porridge, stews or risottos stick to the bottom of the pan. It comes with a handy charging station, and has the option of two stirring speeds.

With a rechargeable battery (good for around 45 minutes of stirring), an adjustable head to fit any sized pot from 16 up to 28cm, the Stirio stirrer is easy to use and clean – it can be totally dismantled so can even go in a dishwasher.

There have been similar products available previously, but none that we have seen are quite as simplistic and versatile as the Stirio. It also won a prestigious Reddot Design Award in 2014, meaning it has been given an approving nod from a board of independent designers.

The Unikia Stirio retails for £39.99 direct from Unikia, but if you shop around, it can be found for £28.99 from IWantOneOfThose.com and a variety of other websites.

Have you tried the Stirio? If not is there any other kitchen gadget you simply cannot live without? We would love to hear your comments on either our Facebook page, Google+ page or on Twitter.

Oak Kitchens in Brinjal: October’s Bespoke Colour of the Month

October’s Bespoke Colour of the Month

Autumn is upon us, and the early signs suggest that warm seasonal shades are going to be extremely popular over the coming months. Fiery reds, deep oranges and rich purples are amongst the top designer picks for Autumn-Winter 2014/15.

With this in mind, we thought we would highlight a favourite colour from Farrow & Ball that is available as a ‘bespoke’ option for our solid oak frontals. Brinjal, a deep aubergine shade, is a most delightful colour and perfect for this time of year.

If utilising this shade within oak kitchens, we’d recommend choosing Brinjal for a feature island, or perhaps mismatching wall cabinets in Brinjal with base cabinets finished with frontals painted in Elephants Breath (from our Accents range) or Charleston Gray (Strong Accents). Brinjal is a strong purple with rouge undertones and appears warmer or colder depending on the light; first seeming a pale reddish shade, this colour will darken with further coats and as the paint cures. The rosy tones pair beautifully with warm greys or lighter purples (like those colours suggested above). Alternatively, choose a coffee and cream colour scheme with aubergine at its centre.

Whatever you choose, Brinjal is sure to brighten your kitchen on brisk autumnal nights: and there are plenty of complementary shades to consider within our ‘standard’ collection of door frontal colours. If you’d like to discuss your colour scheme or would like advice about any of our cabinet options, please do not hesitate to contact us.
