As a supplier of solid wood kitchens, we work hard to ensure that all of our products are responsibly sourced; there are a number of benefits of using solid wood and its sustainability is one that is incredibly important to us. A range of governing bodies exist to regulate the supply chain of timbers within different areas, and as such, all of our oak is sourced from within Europe and is FSC-certified.
The FSC, or Forest Stewardship Council, is a global organisation that offers a certification system for forest management and chain of custody, which ensures that any products created using material from well-managed forests or recycled timber can be easily identified by consumers. Every year, FSC Friday is held on the last Friday in September to educate and inform people how important responsible forestry is.
There are a number in ways you can get involved with FSC Friday, and we have listed our top tips for raising awareness below:
- 1. Baking
- Getting creative in the kitchen is a delicious way to raise awareness, and is something that will work for any organisation as it is rare to find somebody who is not a fan of cake, biscuits, or a tray bake. If sugar craft is not your forte, the FSC logo is easy to create when you have a green icing pen!
- 2. Create a Display
- Displays can be created in a number of different ways depending on the organisation you are involved with. For schools, social groups or guiding organisations, asking students or members to make a display showcasing the work that the FSC does can be a fantastic way to raise awareness for the importance of responsible forest management. If you work for a business that would like to educate staff or customers, this can be a fantastic opportunity to showcase FSC certified products and use them as a tool to communicate to people the importance of sustainable and responsibly forestry.
- 3. Visit an FSC Forest
- What could be better than celebrating FSC Friday in an FSC certified forest? Find your local FSC forest and plan your visit today!
- 4. Go Green
- Asking staff, pupils or members to wear an item of green clothing for FSC Friday is an easy way to get everybody involved. You could also consider asking for donations that can be contributed towards local tree-planting or forestry charities.
These are just a few ways that you can raise awareness for FSC certified items. Sourcing the timbers we use in a sustainable and responsible manner is important to us, and you can learn more about our dedication to this on our environmental policy page.

Open and broken plan kitchens have seen a recent resurgence in popularity, with many people opting for more flow between the kitchen, dining and living areas. If you are considering an open kitchen design, they can provide a number of benefits for your home. We have compiled a list of our top reasons to choose an open or broken plan kitchen below, to assist you in deciding if it is the right for you.
One of the main benefits of an open kitchen design is the illusion of additional space it provides. Although the extra space is not necessarily used in the kitchen, the flow between a kitchen and dining or living space can give the appearance that the room is more spacious. Removing walls between rooms will often mean wall cabinets need to be taken down too, and this can have a huge impact on the feeling of space.
Allowing light to flow freely between combined rooms maximises the natural light available, creating a bright and airy home. An open kitchen design is a fantastic way to make the heart of your home seem fresher and cleaner without the expense, cost or inconvenience of adding windows. An added bonus of a brighter, more airy room is that it will often appear larger than it really is.
An open kitchen design is an excellent option for those who regularly entertain. By combining dining or living space with the kitchen, you can ensure that guests are not left for long periods of time when cooking or preparing food. It also combats the problem of guests congregating in the kitchen at parties – as with an open plan space, it is easier to have the furniture to accommodate people, rather than having to leave them standing as in a traditional kitchen.
Using an open kitchen design for your family home is a fantastic way to maximise the amount of time you get to spend together. Watching young children whilst cooking is not always an easy task, and similarly, engaging teenagers to spend time with you can be a tough ask. With an open plan or broken plan space, there is plenty of room for loved ones to be close by whilst food is prepared or cleaning tasks are tackled.
These are just a few of the benefits of having an open kitchen design. We would love to see your open plan kitchens featuring our products – feel free to tag us in photos on Instagram or Facebook.
