Colours of the Month: New Year Hues for Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets

The New Year is here and it is time to spruce up your kitchen with some fresh new shades. Inspired by the predicted trends for 2016, we have produced a beautiful palette containing three colours, all of which are ideal for adorning your solid oak kitchen cabinets and cabinet frontals with this year.

Colours of the Month: Pale Powder
Colours of the Month: St Giles Blue
Colours of the Month: Calluna

One of the ever-popular colours from our ‘Pastel’ range of paints from Farrow & Ball, Pale Powder is a cool combination of blue and green that is works well in conjunction with darker shades in a solid wood kitchen. In colder light, Pale Powder looks closer to a duck-egg blue, whilst in warm summer sun, the colour exhibits more green tones.

St Giles Blue is described by Farrow & Ball as “a clean strong blue originally found in the hall of 17th century St Giles House at Wimborne St Giles”. This sky-blue hue would make a perfect feature wall in wooden kitchens, or alternatively looks wonderful on oak kitchen doors and drawer fronts when combined with a dark hardwood worktop. Consider pairing it with a light grey such as Elephant’s Breath or a clean white tone such as Great White.

Our last colour in this New Year palette is Calluna – a colour that derives its name from the flower on heather that adorns the moors of Scotland. In warmer lights, this light lilac shade takes on a more pinky hue, whilst the contrasts of bright whites and dark tones like Brassica or Pelt bring out its grey and blue notes.

If you think any these colours would complement your kitchen design, then why not try them out by ordering one of our painted cabinet door kitchen samples? Each door sample is a miniature replica of our full-size cabinet frontals, and all are available in natural sanded or lacquered finishes or painted in the Farrow & Ball colour of your choosing.
