With all this talk of Green Deals and government incentives, the size of our collective carbon footprint is on everyone’s minds. Fortunately when you buy from Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, you can rest assured that your purchase is sustainable and responsible.
There are lots of ways in which a business can reduce their carbon emissions – and here are just two of the things we do:
- Biomass Heating. As fans of solid wood, we’ve always ensured that wastage of this wonderful natural material is minimal (offcuts are used to make solid wood chopping boards or samples). We’re therefore delighted that the implementation of a biomass boiler in 2011 has allowed us to reach a zero wastage level. Our handfed Talbott boiler provides 100% of the heating for our warehouse and is fuelled by solid wood offcuts. The Green Deal should make it easier for boilers like these to be used commercially, with cash back/grants available through the RHI.
- Be a recycling whiz. We employ reusable packaging wherever we can, and when it comes to printing/marketing literature we only use FSC certified paper or recycled cardboard (in fact as we’re an ecommerce business, we’ve introduced paperless practices wherever we can – e.g. email invoices and confirmations). There is also a self-enclosed extraction system in our warehouse to capture and recycle all emissions.
So whether businesses make changes because of the Green Deal or not, we believe that the more we can all do for the environment, the better – and we’ll continue to update you as we improve and tweak our own policies.
