Frequently Asked Questions
Below you will find the answers to our most frequently asked questions - but please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything else we can clarify. We're here to help!
How long does delivery take?
All cabinets listed on the website are available from UK stock. We estimate delivery within 20 working days from point of order; this will be confirmed after purchase, when a member of our staff will contact you to organise delivery.
What if I lose my instructions?
Don't worry! Instructions for all cabinets are available to view or download on our website. View the Online Assembly Instructions page for further information.
How much does delivery cost?
The delivery charge depends on the size of the order and the delivery location. Small orders - including splashbacks, handles, wirework and installation accessories - cost just £10 per order, and our samples are offered with free delivery. If ordered separately, delivery of our kitchen doors will cost £25 per order and for our worktops, we charge £25 for the first one and then £15 for additional kitchen tops. Within our standard delivery areas, the maximum delivery charge for any order is £100, and this is applicable to purchases containing over six cabinets.
These costs are based on delivering to the majority of mainland UK postcodes, but some areas including the Scottish Highlands and Channel Islands will be subject to slightly higher costs. We will contact you if this is the case. For more information, visit our delivery information page.
Do the prices include VAT?
Yes, all our listed prices are inclusive of VAT.
Who is behind solidwoodkitchencabinets.co.uk?
Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets is a trading name of Direct Online Services LTD, the limited company behind websites such as Worktop Express. All DOS brands are committed to delivering the same impeccable level of service, and as a company we have supplied over 375,000 orders to satisfied customers since our inception.
Is the timber FSC certified?
Yes, our cabinet panels are manufactured from solid oak with FSC certification.
Do you have a showroom?
We now have eight kitchen showrooms across the UK, which are all very easy to access. Our original showroom was opened at our headquarters in Quedgeley, Gloucestershire (just off J12 of the M5) in July 2012, and continues to stock a wide range of kitchen and worktop finishes.
Our showroom in Harlow, Essex serves the east of the country, while our Chesterfield, Derbyshire January 2016 we opened further locations in Warrington, Cheshire - close to both Liverpool and Manchester - and Redhill, Surrey.
Can I see an example of your cabinets anywhere?
As mentioned above, our showrooms - in which a number of our cabinets are on full display - cover a large part of the UK, and further showrooms will be opened soon. Our trade counter displays fully built cabinet samples, too. We also offer a large range of samples as standard, including cabinet material samples, door frontal samples (available in every finish we provide), along with worktop samples of our entire worktop range. These can be viewed on our sample service page.
Do you offer an assembly service?
Our wall and base cabinets come pre-assembled as standard at no extra cost, having been constructed by our talented team at our Gloucestershire facility. We do this to ensure our kitchens can be fitted easily without the assistance of a kitchen fitter.. If you would prefer, our cabinets can be supplied in flatpack form so you can assemble them yourself - handy if you do not have lots of space to store your new cabinets before installation.Cabinets
What are the cabinets constructed from?
The cabinet sides, base, shelf and top panels are 18mm solid European oak (40mm staves). The back panel of the cabinet is foil covered MDF.
Why are the cabinets not made 100% from solid oak?
The cabinets are constructed almost entirely from solid oak. The one exception is the back panel. It is standard practice for back panels to be made from a non-solid material (such as veneer or MDF) to aid stability, as a hollow back panel allows for the natural contraction and expansion of solid wood. Furthermore, our back panels have been designed to give the appearance of solid wood and blend in beautifully with the cabinet as a whole.
Do your cabinets have a service gap?
Our standard base and full height cabinets have a convenient 75mm service gap. Our wall cabinets and 300mm depth slimline base cabinets have a service gap of 10mm, and our 450mm depth slimline base cabinets have a service gap of 40mm. Curved and open end units are supplied without a service gap to maximise the working area.
How are the cabinets finished?
Our solid wood cabinets are factory finished in the UK with an innovative lacquer finish that is specially formulated to withstand heavy use. The finish is very much a "natural look", but it also creates a surface that is virtually maintenance free. The cabinet finish is approved to FIRA standard 6250:2005.
You can choose to have your cabinet frontals (doors and drawers) left in this natural look, unvarnished or finished in any of the shades in the extensive Farrow & Ball collection for a small additional cost.
How do I clean / maintain the cabinets?
Due to the innovative lacquer finish, our cabinets are virtually maintenance free. Simply clean with warm soapy water, using a soft, damp cloth. The surface finish of the cabinets is resistant to abrasion, wet and dry heat, spirit solutions and a wide range of household chemicals and foodstuffs (including red wine).
How are the cabinets supplied?
As standard, your order will be supplied fully assembled, ensuring they are ready for installation when they arrive. If you would prefer, your cabinets can be provided flat packed with all required fittings and assembly instructions. Please choose 'no to all' at the checkout when placing your order if you require your order to be delivered unassembled.
Are the frontals & cabinets drilled for hinges & drawer runners?
Our existing frontals & flat-pack cabinets are not supplied pre-drilled for door hinges, allowing for the orientation to be decided by the customer. The cabinets will therefore need to be drilled on-site. We are able to provide a service that pre-drills the holes on both frontals & cabinets prior to delivery; if this is of interest, please contact us for further information. Alternatively, we also supply a DIY hinge drilling machine, allowing you to prepare for the fitting of your frontals at your leisure. Visit our dedicated EcoDrill page to find out more.
If you take advantage of our assembly service and order cabinets with frontals, our team will pre-drill the cabinet and attach the drawer runners and hinges and fit the specified doors and drawers.
Are fixings provided?
Our cabinets are supplied with all required fixings and easy to follow step-by-step assembly instructions. Wall cabinets are supplied with zinc-plated cabinet hanging brackets (including hangers).
Are the base cabinets supplied with legs?
150mm / 600mm base, slimline and full-height cabinets are supplied with four adjustable legs (including plinth clips), and 800mm / 1200mm base, slimline and full-height cabinets are supplied with five adjustable legs (including plinth clips). All heights listed do not include cabinet legs.
Why are the solid wood cabinets such good value for money?
Our purchasing power dictates that we can buy top quality European oak timber at incredible prices. From this, we bulk manufacture the cabinet panels in Europe to provide vast savings on the overall product price. In comparison to bespoke solid wood cabinets, where cabinet orders are handmade on a kitchen by kitchen basis, our labour cost is minimal, yet our precise CNC machining process ensures accuracy. The goods are then quality inspected, finished and packed in the UK, ready for despatch. We stock in excess of 2,000 cabinets at any one time.
Do you supply bespoke cabinets?
Our modular system - containing a comprehensive range of standard sizes - should satisfy the vast majority of kitchens. However, if you absolutely require a cabinet at a different height / width to complete your kitchen order please contact us: we will do our best to assist.
Do you sell corner cabinets?
Yes, we sell both corner solution and L-shaped corner cabinets (wall and base) as part of our collection. These can be viewed on the corner cabinets page.
What type of wirework can be used with your corner base cabinets?
Our corner solution cabinet is designed to be used with either the standard 'magic-corner' pull out or magic basket. The four baskets provide additional storage, making the magic basket a great way to utilise unused space. The L shaped corner base cabinet can be supplied with a handy corner carousel. The two carousel baskets are designed to increase available space in your L shaped corner cabinet. Both wireworks require a minimum door width, so please check this when purchasing the unit to ensure compatibility.Frontals
Are the cabinets provided with matching oak doors?
Yes, we launched a full range of solid oak frontals at the end of 2011. Our vast range of solid oak frontals caters for every taste, with a selection of finishes including natural sanded, lacquered (to match the cabinets), or hand finished in the colour of your choosing. Please feel free to contact us if you are unsure which option to go for; our knowledgeable and experienced staff will be happy to discuss your requirements.
Are your frontals supplied with handles?
Our frontals are not supplied with handles, but we have a wide collection of handles, knobs and pulls in stock that can be purchased alongside your doors or cabinets. These items cost from just £2 each.
Do you sell end-panels?
Yes. However, as our kitchen cabinets are constructed from solid oak panels, an aesthetic end panel at the end of a long run of units is not vital: another benefit and cost saving bonus of the Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinet range.
If you would prefer to purchase an end panel, though, we do stock end panels in various lengths and finishes; for example, we can supply a painted end panel to match your frontals, giving the impression of a fully-painted kitchen (but with the maintenance bonus of lacquered cabinet internals for durability and easy-cleaning!). We also supply tongue-and-grooved panels to create an aesthetic feature. Please visit our frontals accessories page to learn more.New Products

Do you sell curved cabinet doors?
We now offer both Shaker and Traditional-style curved doors in our full range of Farrow & Ball paints, or with a hard-wearing lacquer finish if you prefer.
