Buying Wooden Worktops for Oak Kitchens
Choosing the ideal wooden worktop for oak kitchens can be a tough choice when there are so many beautiful options available. At Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets we have 12 different wood species making up nearly 30 different worktop varieties that can be delivered by our own in-house 2 man delivery team.
With this wide selection on offer, picking suitable solid wooden worktops is crucial in creating a stand-out kitchen centrepiece. Whilst we appreciate that finding the right worktop for your kitchen is a subjective decision, we have some great tips on choosing the right one to suit your new wooden kitchen.
Pick a timber to complement your cabinets
With so many worktop options to choose from, it is important to pick a timber that complements the colour of your solid wood kitchen cabinets. If you have chosen to keep your kitchen cabinets their natural oak colour, then it makes a lot of sense to stick with oak worktops, too. Alternatively, choose a dark timber such as black American walnut or wenge to contrast against the light hue of the natural oak timber.
For painted cabinets, choose a timber that is juxtaposed to your choice of paint. For example, if you choose to go for very fashionable dark grey or green frontals, we would recommend picking a lightly coloured worktop, such as oak, maple, ash or bamboo.
If you have picked a lighter colour to paint your cabinet frontals, you may instead want to choose a worktop with rich, luxurious tones such as our walnut, black American walnut or iroko.
Decide on your preferred stave construction
Our range of worktops come in three different stave formations: 40mm wide, 90mm wide ‘Deluxe’, and 90mm wide ‘full stave’ with long staves that run the entire length of the worktop. Not all timbers are available in the Deluxe and full stave constructions, limited by the type and size of the trees.
The standard 40mm wide stave worktops create a ‘butcher block’ look that gives a varied aesthetic whilst showing plenty of character of your chosen timber. This worktop option is available in every one of our wood species and is the least expensive of our worktop choices, starting at just £75 for a 3m beech worktop.
Constructed in a similar way, but with larger 90mm wide staves, our Deluxe worktops are more luxurious and show off more of your chosen timber’s beautiful grain pattern. Not all the worktops in our range are available in this type of construction, but there are still some truly exceptional species to choose from including black American Walnut and Prime Oak worktops.
Finally, our full stave worktops are the most impressive in our range. Featuring a hand-picked collection of beautiful timbers, the staves that make up each worktop measure up to 90mm wide and run the entire length of the worktop for an unrivalled display of your chosen timber’s stunning natural grain and colouration.
