How to Store More in Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets
Other than aesthetic deliberations, a key consideration when designing your kitchen is to ensure that your kitchen makes the best use of any available space, in order to afford you plenty of storage.
The versatility provided by solid oak kitchen cabinets means that each unit can be customised to suit almost any storage requirement – whether you simply require an abundance of shelves, or need a more specialist solution such as kitchen wirework.
Our wide range of oak kitchen units includes a variety of base, wall and specialist cabinets, which can be combined to create a high-quality kitchen with ample storage space.
In this information guide we have put together some handy tips to help you make the most of your cabinet’s storage potential.
Add extra shelves to cabinets
When you purchase a cabinet from Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, a single shelf is included as standard, though shelf packs can be purchased separately that each include two additional shelves. Standard base cabinets can accommodate up to five shelves in total, whilst up to seven can be fitted to our full-height cabinets.
With such flexibility in adding extra shelves to our cabinets, it means that every last inch of the cabinet’s height can be fully utilised for storage if space is a premium.
Install kitchen wirework
Another unique way of using all available space in your base cabinets is to install kitchen wirework in suitable cabinets.
Our range of wirework solutions can be installed in standard base cabinets, slimline cabinets or full-height cabinets, and are ideal for helping you store much more in a cupboard that you might otherwise be able to.
With our Magic Basket Corner Solution or Corner Carousel wirework, you can make use of far more space in a corner cabinet than usual.
For full height cabinets, our Soft Close Larder and 3/4 Height Larder make it considerably easier to access food and other items which might otherwise end up collecting dust in the extremities of your cabinets.
Other innovative storage solutions
Wall cabinets
Don’t forget to use your wall space wisely. Whilst you may not want to have units on every wall in your kitchen, careful placement will mean you are afforded lots more space than if you predominantly use base cabinets – especially if you need room for under-counter appliances.
Kitchen Waste Bins
Save on precious floor space in your kitchen by relocating your waste bins to an unused base cabinet. Our Easy-Cargo Waste Bins are an ideal solution for keeping rubbish out of site and away from small hands or pesky paws. Available in two sizes, these waste bins sit in a frame that easily attaches straight onto the base of any of our cabinets of at least 500mm width, and can be quickly removed for cleaning or disposal.
Cutlery Tray Inserts
Okay, so our wood kitchen cutlery tidy may not necessarily save you any space, but it is certainly guaranteed to help keep your knives, forks and other commonly-used cutlery well organised. These inserts are available in a variety of different hardwoods and various widths to suit drawers up to 1m wide.
Oak Plate Racks
Our wood kitchen plate racks are made from 100% European oak and are designed to fit beautifully into any of our wall units. In a full-width cabinet, each 1200mm rack can house up to 24 plates, making them easy to reach whilst saving space in your kitchen cabinets or drawers.
