Using the Blum ECODRILL for creating Perfect Solid Wood Kitchens
Here at Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, our wide range of oak cabinetry and matching doors are designed to allow you to create your dream wooden kitchen for an affordable price (at a fraction of the cost of a bespoke alternative, in fact).
Even if you aren’t a professional fitter or carpenter, it’s easy to put together your own solid wood kitchens with only a few simple household DIY tools. Some jobs, however, require a little more precision than most home DIY tools can afford.
Fitting our oak kitchen cabinet doors, is one such job. Holes can be drilled using a special hole saw, but to do this you will have to spend time measuring your doors, and then take extreme caution when making the cut – one wrong move and your oak cabinet door could be ruined.
To make this task infinitely easier and more precise, we offer the hire or purchase of the specialist Blum ECODRILL. This handy piece of equipment is designed to accurately drill the holes in your kitchen frontals, which makes fitting the hinges a straightforward procedure.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
To use the ECODRILL, you will need to attach it to your oak frontal before fitting it to your cabinet; it simply clamps onto the frontal in the position of your choice. Once it is attached, you can then use either a hand drill or electric drill to drive the ECODRILL, by using a ‘torx’ bit in the head of your drill, which corresponds with the torx sockets on top of the ECODRILL.
Not only will the ECODRILL make a large hole for the hinge to recess into, but it will also drill the two holes either side that accommodate screws to hold the hinge in place.
Once you have performed one cut, you can drill the second hinge hole towards the bottom of the cabinet. For doors measuring up to 720mm in height, we recommend two Blum hinges, whilst full-height cabinet doors will require three or four hinges to securely hold the door in place.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The Blum ECODRILL can either be hired or purchased outright. For fitting a single kitchen, we recommend hiring it for 1 month at a cost of £75. For hire, we require a deposit of £300, £225 of which will be refunded once delivered safely back in a usable condition.
It will be delivered in a protective flight case with a drilling gauge, 35mm drill bit, 8mm drill bit and two torx bits included.
Alternatively, if you are kitchen fitter, or plan to make regular use of the ECODRILL for other projects, you can purchase one for £200 including delivery.
