“What is the difference between ‘Shaker’ and ‘Traditional’ doors for solid oak kitchen cabinets?” Question of the Week 03.05.15
“What is the difference between ‘Shaker’ and ‘Traditional’ doors for solid oak kitchen cabinets?”
Our second ‘Question of the Week’ comes from Angela, who lives in Colchester. She is currently designing her new kitchen, but wants some clarification on the difference between our ‘Traditional’ and ‘Shaker’ doors for solid oak kitchen cabinets.
QUESTION:
“I have just started designing my new kitchen and plan to buy most of the components from yourselves. Can you please clarify what the difference is between your Traditional and Shaker style doors so I know which one to choose?”
ANSWER:
Hi Angela,
Thank you for sending your query in.
Our ‘Traditional’ and ‘Shaker’ doors come in two distinct designs that suit a variety of different kitchen themes, depending on your desired aesthetic. Traditional doors are more suited to classic, country and farmhouse kitchens, whilst Shaker doors suit a wide gamut of kitchen designs, but look particularly fitting in modern schemes.
Both types of door are made from solid European oak, which measures 20mm thick on the Shaker design, and 22mm thick on the Traditional design, featuring a 6mm thick solid oak centre panel.
Shaker doors have a 100mm wide frame with a simple, square edge profile around the centre panel, whilst Traditional doors have two subtly different designs depending which finish you would prefer.
Sanded and painted Traditional doors have a ‘single’ smooth bezel that surrounds the centre panel and a frame measuring 106mm, whilst the lacquered Traditional doors have a more detailed ‘double’ bezel around the centre panel and a frame measuring 90mm wide.
Both types of doors are available in the full range of Farrow & Ball colours, but if you would like to get a better idea of how these doors will look before placing a full order, why not consider ordering some of our miniature frontal samples? They are smaller replicas of the full-sized product, and are available in sanded, lacquered or painted finish for just £20.
If you go on to place an order for 10 or more doors, the price of the sample can be refunded against your order.

Kind Regards,
The Team @ Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets
