“What is your floating shelf weight limit?” Question of the Week 12.02.17
“What is your floating shelf weight limit?”
Our question of the week has been sent in by Rebecca in Burbage, who would like to know more about the weight capacity for our floating shelves.
QUESTION:
“I’m planning on using some of your oak shelving where I’ve got a water heater in my kitchen that I need to work around. As I’d like to use them for additional storage, I’d like to know what your floating shelf weight limit is?”
ANSWER:
Hi Rebecca,
Thanks for sending your question in – you’ve given us a bit of a tricky one this week!
It’s difficult for us to quote an exact figure for the weight capacity of floating shelves as it can vary, and depends on the type of wall the shelves will be installed on. Typically solid brick or masonry walls will mean a higher floating shelf weight limit, whilst fixing floating shelves to a plasterboard or studwork wall may mean that less weight can be supported safely. Locating studs and adhering directly to these is the best way to mount floating shelves to timber stud walls.
Fixings are another part of the shelving that will need to be considered when looking at a floating shelf weight limit. All of our floating shelves come supplied with concealed floating shelf supports that will provide a much more secure installation than a standard wall plug.
Although we are unable to provide an exact floating shelf weight limit, many of our customers have used their shelves to store recipe books, cups, plates and even pots and pans.
Hopefully this has given you more of an idea about utilising floating shelves. If you have any other questions you’d like us to answer, please do not hesitate to call us on 0345 2222 990 or send us an email via .
Kind regards,
