“How do I Fit Kitchen Unit Legs in Solid Oak Kitchens?” Question Of The Week 24.04.16
“HOW DO I FIT KITCHEN UNIT LEGS IN SOLID OAK KITCHENS?”
Alex from Newcastle has purchased our wonderful wooden cabinets for solid oak kitchens and would like to know how best to install kitchen cabinet legs.
QUESTION:
“I am absolutely delighted with my new wood kitchen cabinets and hardwood worktops, which I recently bought from your company. I’ve now come to installing the units and I wondered if you could advise me on the best way to fit the cabinet legs please! I want to ensure that they stay nice and stable for years to come.”
ANSWER:
Hello Alex,
Thanks for getting in touch, and for making the excellent decision to invest in one of our stunning oak kitchens. It is always best to check anything you are unsure about prior to installation – rather than plunging ahead and having to undo mistakes – so we’re always happy to answer any questions our customers may have!
Our real wood kitchen cabinets are supplied with four legs per unit and all the screws required. They also come with clips for installing kitchen unit plinths – should you need them. Firstly, you will need to fit together each cabinet leg and socket, which is easily done. We suggest placing the mounting plate on a hard, flat surface and pushing the leg down into it firmly with two hands, to ensure that it has gone all the way in.
Next, we recommend placing your assembled cabinet upside down to fit the legs. Attach the legs to each of the four corners of the cabinet so that they are spaced with an even gap between the mounting plate and the edge of the cabinet. If you are adding a plinth, it is important to ensure that the legs at the front of the cabinet are positioned at equal distances from the front edge of the base panel. Mark where each of the screws will go with a pencil, then drill small pilot holes (to help prevent the wood from splitting when fixing the screws).
Finally, fix each leg to the cabinet base with the 2.5mm screws provided. Position the cabinet the right way up in the space you intend it to sit, and then use a spirit level to ensure the adjustable legs are at equal heights. In many houses, it is not uncommon for the floor to be slightly uneven, so you may need to adjust the legs slightly to accommodate this.
We hope you find this advice useful, but please feel free to get in touch again if you require any further assistance. We have lots of useful information guides on our website, such as how to install your wooden worktops and the best way to clean solid oak kitchen cabinets.
Kind regards,
The Team @ Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets
