“Can your solid oak kitchen cabinets be painted?” Question of the Week 28.02.16
“Can your solid oak kitchen cabinets be painted?”
Our ‘Question of the Week’ has been sent in by David in Cardiff. He is thinking of placing an order with us, and he would like to find out whether the doors of our solid oak kitchen cabinets can be painted to suit his preferred colour scheme.
QUESTION:
“I am very interested in ordering some oak kitchen cabinet s from you. I was wondering whether the door fronts could be painted to coordinate with my colour scheme, and – if so – do you sell them ready-painted?”
ANSWER:
Hi David,
Thanks for getting in touch, we’re really pleased you are considering ordering your solid oak kitchen cabinets from us! And the good news is that, yes, you can indeed paint these cabinet doors. However, we do have a few recommendations to help ensure you achieve the best possible finish.
Here at Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, we offer our cabinet frontals in a choice of three finishes: painted, sanded or lacquered. All of our door and drawer frontals are available in any shade by Farrow & Ball, our paint manufacturer of choice. Firstly, the frontal is coated with primer to protect the wood grain, followed by two coats of this high-quality, water-based paint, which are applied by hand to achieve a silky sheen and fabulous end result. What’s more, if you are purchasing at least ten frontals, we will also supply a free 750ml pot of Farrow & Ball paint, in case the paint needs touching up later down the line. This service comes at no extra cost, and can save you a good deal of time and hassle. If you would like to check out all the colours available, why not take a look at our helpful guide: ‘Why Farrow & Ball Paints are Perfect for Oak Kitchens’.
Alternatively, you can opt to purchase our cabinet frontals in a sanded state, allowing you to paint in a colour of your choice. If you would prefer this option, we suggest using high-quality paint (ideally gloss or a paint intended for wood furnishings) to ensure it withstands the general ‘wear and tear’ of daily life in a busy household. Thinner matt emulsions do not serve cabinetry well and can often result in a patchy or flaky finish. With stunning solid wood cabinets like these, we recommend only the best!
Furthermore, we also offer cabinet frontals with a lacquered finish that matches the carcasses. If you did plump for this natural finish, we would like to highlight that there are specialist paints available that are designed specifically for use on pre-lacquered cabinets – so you can change your mind if you want to.
If you are finding it hard to make a decision and would like to order samples, our miniature replica cabinet fronts are available in any of our finishes. The cost of samples can be redeemed against your order when you decide to go ahead with your new kitchen, and can be delivered within 48 hours from purchase.
Good luck designing your new kitchen, David; and if you have any more questions regarding painted furniture, you might find our caring for your painted furniture guide useful. Alternatively, don’t hesitate to get in touch again if there’s anything we can help with.
Kind Regards,
The Team @ Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets
