Choose from contemporary chunky wood, routed classic ‘pillar’, or twisted ‘pillar’ styles for a variety of kitchen design themes; whether contemporary or country, there’s a pilaster to suit your taste.

Our pilasters are available in a range of woods, too. From traditional oak to exotic iroko and wenge, we can supply pilasters to match your wood worktop of choice, and in a variety of finishes. Choose from an unfettered sanded finish, a glossy lacquer coating, or even painted to match cabinet frontals (we can hand finish in any colour from Farrow & Ball).

Consider using a combination of classic pilasters with more ornate variations either side of built-in appliances to make the decorative details stand out even more. Whilst pilasters can be used as corner posts in some situations, we also have Shaker and Traditional style corner posts to complement pilasters used elsewhere in the kitchen.

Spotlight on Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets for Corners

Solid oak kitchen cabinets are ideal for a host of kitchen designs, though sometimes you’ll need to consider space-saving as well as style when considering your new kitchen’s layout.

Corner cabinets are a necessary part of many kitchens, but with cheap and old-fashioned corner cabinets, space is often wasted and unusable. At Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets, we offer solid oak corner cabinets in two base cabinet designs as well as one that is ideal for a wall-mounted cabinet.

Our standard corner solution cabinet is a simple and cost-effective way of utilising cabinets in a corner, and is available in 900, 1000 and 1200mm widths. It comes with a standard 715mm high door in a choice of finishes, corner post, Blum™ BLUMOTION™ soft close hinges, a 3.5mm oak-foiled rear ‘blind’ panel and fixtures to install the corner post and blind panel. These cabinets work fantastically well with our pull-out magic basket corner wirework, and ensure maximum space-saving efficiency.

L-shaped corner base cabinets are perfect for making best use of available corner cabinet space in your kitchen. They are designed to maximise internal storage space, and come in one size – H720mm x 920mm x 570mm that perfectly combines with our ¾ carousel wirework to provide ample room.

We also offer oak kitchen wall cabinets that are ideal space-savers for kitchens with available corners. We have two sizes available (H720mm or H900mm), to suit all manner of kitchen layouts with available corner space. As with all our other cabinets, they’re manufactured from staves of solid oak and provided with a resilient and attractive lacquered finish.

To see a sample of our cabinet quality, either take a trip to our Gloucester showroom, or order one of our great value cabinet samples. They’re available for only £5 including delivery, which can be refunded if you choose to place an order with us.

Solid Oak Kitchens in Plummett: July’s Colour of the Month

Posted by admin on July 9, 2014 at 4:17 pm. Filed under: Products
Plummett July’s Colour of the Month for solid oak kitchens

One of Farrow & Ball’s newest colours, this particular shade of grey was introduced to the range in 2011. In certain lights, grey can be seen as oppressive – not so with Plummett, which manages to be just light enough to feel cool and contemporary.

Named after the lead weight used in fishing, this metallic shade looks fantastic alongside darker woods such as iroko and walnut (though will suit any wooden worktop), and is ideal for cabinet frontals in modern solid oak kitchens with an industrial vibe.

Alternatively, consider creating a ‘feature’ wall in your kitchen with Plummett; choose bright white tones throughout the space to produce a sense of complementary contrast (New White would be a good pick).

Consider the natural light in the room, too. Sitting amongst our ‘Strong Accents’ selection, in warm summer light this attractive grey takes on light earthy tones, whilst in the colder light of winter, it possesses hints of blue.

If you’d like to see how cabinet doors painted in Plummett will look in the light of your kitchen – or any other room for that matter – then order one (or more) of our mini painted cabinet door kitchen samples. They’re a steal at only £20 including delivery, and can be hand-finished in Plummet, or any of the other Farrow & Ball shades available.

Accessorise Oak Kitchens with Cornices and Pelmets

Our oak kitchen wall cabinets are made of solid European oak and finished to an incredibly high standard, and look great when mounted on the walls of oak kitchens as they are.

If you’d like to add a little extra style or flare to your wall units, however, then consider a cornice or ponder a pelmet. Cornices are designed to add a decorative trim around the bottom of your cupboards, whilst pelmets are placed on the top.

Accessorise Oak Kitchens with Cornices and Pelmets

Cornices and pelmets from Solid Wood Kitchen Cabinets come in either a Shaker or Traditional finish to suit both contemporary and classic kitchen themes. Shaker styling is simplistic and elegant, whilst the Traditional styling is embellished with extra details to add ornate flair.

We offer a wide range, including straight options up to 2700mm, along with the new addition of curved options (which match our excellent kitchen corner cabinets and curved doors). No matter what finish you’ve gone for in your kitchen, these decorative items can be completed in the style of your choosing: sanded, lacquered or painted in one of Farrow & Ball’s finest shades.

Both cornices and pelmets are constructed from full stave solid oak, with a supplement of oak-foiled MDF on the rear for ease of installation. The inclusion of the MDF return also allows the wood to move with changes in temperature without separating from the cabinets.

If you’d like to see our attractive cornices and pelmets in action, do visit our Gloucester showroom; we have nine full kitchen sets on display, each featuring a wonderful array of cabinetry, solid wood worktops, and frontals accessories. We’re open from 9am-5pm, Monday – Friday, and 10am-2pm on Saturday.

Spotlight on Full Height Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets

Spotlight on Full Height Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets

There was a time when all kitchens would have a larder as a large, cool food store. As times have changed and fridges have become better, a separate room to store food in no longer seems necessary.

If you still need a large space to store food outside of the fridge, such as tinned food and non-perishables, a full-height cabinet is a great alternative to the larders of old. If you’re considering a built-in oven or other appliance, then our full height solid oak kitchen cabinets provide ideal housings. Our tall kitchen units are available in the standard 570mm depth, as well as a variety of widths up to 600mm and heights up to 2145mm. Like all our other cabinets, they’re constructed from solid European oak panels, so don’t necessarily require an end panel to create a stunning look. The rear panels are an oak-veneered composite, which gives the cabinet space to naturally expand and contract without the wood cracking over time.

Full height cabinets come with a pair of shelves included, though extras are available as well as a fantastic range of wirework, to give a full height cabinet some easily-accessible storage. We can also provide a range of different door and drawer combinations, perfect for storing large cooking pans, pans or anything else you might require space for. Our drawers and ‘lift-up’ doors come with excellent mechanisms from Blum, which provide exceptionally smooth movement and long-lasting quality.

If you’d like to see our full height cabinets up close, then why not come over to our Gloucester-based showroom to see them for yourself? We have a number of different full height cabinets in our demonstration kitchens, including some with wirework.

Solid Oak Kitchens in Elephant’s Breath: June’s Colour of the Month

Solid Oak Kitchens in Elephant’s Breath: June’s Colour of the Month

There are some curious names given to several of Farrow & Ball’s paints, such as Cat’s Paw, Dead Salmon and Nancy’s Blushes. None are more iconic than the name given to this delicate shade of grey with lilac undertones: Elephant’s Breath.

Its name is a real conversation-starter that adds that extra layer of intrigue to a colour that might otherwise be passed off as ‘just another’ shade of grey. The name has a long history, however, and was brought into modern use by renowned 20th Century English decorator, John Fowler. Indeed, in her book Elephant’s Breath and London Smoke, Deb Salisbury provides evidence that the name has been since 1874. In 1909 it was described as “a cool purple-grey”, which seems a rather apt description to this day.

‘Elephant’s Breath’ suits a wide range of solid oak kitchens, working very well in modern themes alongside darker purple and blue cabinetry accents, and when combined with dark wooden worktops such as walnut and wenge. It also carries itself alongside other light pastel hues, crisp whites and natural materials, such as earthenware tiling, linen fabrics and stone or brickwork.

Do keep in mind that it can look entirely different under fluorescent lighting to how it does in natural daylight, varying from a peachy brown to the more familiar mauve-tinted grey. If you’re not sure how this shade will look in your kitchen, why not consider ordering one of our painted door kitchen samples? Priced at £20 including delivery, these sample doors a miniature version of the real thing, and allow you to fully appreciate whether the paint is the perfect fit for your kitchen.

Spotlight on Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets for Walls

Spotlight on Solid Oak Kitchen Cabinets

As the average kitchen size has shrunk over the last fifty years, people have had to make better use of the storage space available, and the most popular way of doing this is by utilising empty wall space to mount solid oak kitchen cabinets.

Our wall cabinets – like our other carcasses – are manufactured from the highest quality 18mm solid oak staves. They’re available in three depths (570mm, 450mm & 300mm), widths of up to 1200mm and heights of up to 900mm. So no matter what wall space you have available, there’s some cabinetry to suit.

All the cabinets are constructed from European oak, which is sanded to be beautifully smooth and finished with three coats of lacquer for an incredibly resilient, smooth and even strain resistant surface. Unlike many other retailers, our cabinets are entirely constructed from oak apart from the oak-veneered backpanel, which allows the cabinet to naturally expand and contract with changes in temperature. The cabinets in our range come with a single oak shelf, but further shelves are available to order should you require.

Unlike our standard base cabinets, wall cabinets are also available with our novel bi-folding wood kitchen doors, which open upwards, meaning they are particularly good at giving full access to a wall-mounted cabinet without taking up too much room. The Blum™ BLUMOTION™ soft close hinges enact a wonderfully-smooth action to avoid cupboard doors slamming closed.

Want to find out more about our wall cabinets? Take a visit to our Gloucester showroom to see our wall-mounted cabinets in a variety of different kitchen situations, or order one of our oak cabinet samples to get a true idea of our cabinet’s high-quality construction. The samples are only £5 including delivery and will be refunded to you if you go on to order from us.

Solid Oak Kitchens in Vert de Terre: May’s Colour of the Month

Vert de Terre: May’s Colour of the Month

Earthy tones look fantastic alongside wooden kitchen worktops in a natural kitchen, and what better colour to suit than May’s Farrow & Ball colour of the month – Vert de Terre. A complex green that is lighter and more vibrant than Mizzle and less stony than Pigeon, it sits at the top of our Accents range, and is ideal for cabinets combined with walls and trim painted in one of our lighter shades such as Pale Powder or Light Blue.

Vert de Terre can suit a variety of companions, from the dark contrasting hues of a wenge or American walnut worktop, to the very light tones of maple. Pair it with a bamboo worktop and our solid oak cabinetry to create nature-inspired solid oak kitchens that work wonderfully with adjoining conservatories, plenty of flowers, vegetation and hand-crafted accessories.

This Farrow & Ball paint is a perfect combination of green and gray. Earthy, yet effortlessly elegant, Vert de Terre doesn’t look obviously green; it’s far more subtle and looks as good in bright sun as it does in candlelight.

If you’re curious to find out just how great Vert de Terre looks in person, or need time to compare it against our full range of glorious Farrow & Ball paints, we’ve got two fantastic options for you. Either head down to our Gloucester-based showroom, or order one of our mini door samples. Available pre-painted in any colour from our range, these samples are a bargain at only £20, the cost of which can be refunded if you go on to order with us.
