White worktops atop white cabinets look effective in a traditional kitchen, especially if you have a dark floor. The black pull handles contrast with the doors whilst the high ceiling accommodates traditional pendulum lanterns – both features accentuate the traditional style.

Marble Effect Worktops with Green Cabinets

This kitchen features a white marble worktop. This stone, although beautiful, is expensive and difficult to install. As an alternative, you could replace it with a marble effect laminate worktop and still achieve a similar effect. Here, the dark pattern in the marble complements the colour of the cabinets and adds continuity throughout the kitchen. Consider a colour such as Green Smoke by Farrow & Ball, or, for something darker, Studio Green. Brass kitchen handles and knobs work particularly well with these colours.

Islands and Full height Cabinetry

If you have the space, an island is a great feature to include in your kitchen because they offer additional worktop, storage and seating space – they also look fantastic. This island has a large white worktop atop blue cabinets which have been fitted with Shaker doors. The overhang on the island gives plenty of room for seating, whether at breakfast time or whilst entertaining in the evening. Full height cabinetry, in a lighter colour, helps to separate the two areas.

Glass Fronted Wall Cabinets

Glass fronted cabinets allow you to store all of your kitchen equipment whilst making them visible – the perfect balance between storage and display. This style of cabinet works particularly well in this kitchen because there is a lot of natural light. The addition of glass maintains the open airy feeling that this kitchen achieves so easily.

So far, all of the kitchens we have seen feature coloured cabinets. In this example, white worktops have been combined with unpainted doors. This highlights how beautiful solid wood can be when left natural – we offer both lacquered and sanded finishes. In addition to the white worktops, the walls are also pale and so reflect the light back into the room, creating an airy atmosphere.

Inky colours combine with white and reflective metals to create an atmospheric, sophisticated and elegant kitchen. This contemporary kitchen mood board has been designed to inspire you as you create your new contemporary kitchen.

Colours

This mood board features several dark colours which inject an air of sophistication. These deep shades vary from Stiffkey Blue to Pitch Black, both by Farrow & Ball, and can be used on Shaker cabinet doors to introduce a contemporary elegance to your kitchen. The dark colours are also used on the wall clock and stylish fridge-freezer by Smeg. The beautiful matt finishes on both are ideally suited to a modern kitchen.

Brass, copper and steel have been introduced to complement the darkness and can be found on the clock, fridge freezer, handles, light fixture and wallpaper. To contrast against the dark colours, a lighter surface – like our white sparkle Andromeda worktop – is ideal and will also bring balance to the deeper hues used. The flecks of reflective metals in this work surface mirror the metals in the light, fridge and clock, adding continuity to the kitchen. We have included a wallpaper that is predominantly white as this is a great way to ensure the dark cabinets do not overwhelm – this is especially important in a smaller space..

Elements

Geometry features heavily in this contemporary kitchen mood board. The wallpaper has an overlapping diamond pattern, which, although reminiscent of 1920s style, fits perfectly into a 21^st century design. Clean lines and sharp angles dominate and add a distinctly contemporary feel. Where there are curves, i.e. in the wall clock, the lines have been made purposefully simple. The blocky shape of the fridge-freezer complements the geometric panelling of the Shaker doors whilst the ceiling light, although subtle, offers enough difference to work as a focal point for the room. Fixing bold stainless steel pull handles to the cabinets will continue the geometric design.

Design

Available in a range of timbers including oak, beech and iroko, our solid wood cutlery tray inserts for drawers are constructed from the highest quality hardwood using a CNC machine, before being beautifully hand finished. As well as different materials, we also have a range of sizes available, from 310mm to 910mm, depending on the size of your drawers and the amount of cutlery you own. The sides have been perfectly profiled to complement our range of Blum drawer boxes.

Each wooden cutlery tray has compartments for knives, forks and spoons as well as other kitchen utensils. Engraved with symbols so you know exactly what belongs where, these trays are fully sanded and treated with Danish oil before delivery.

Size Options

To ensure that your cutlery tray fits into your kitchen drawers, we have numerous sizes available. Each tray has sections for knives, forks and spoons, along with a minimum of two additional compartments for other utensils. The options are listed below along with the total number of compartments:

Wood Options

Solid oak cutlery tray inserts are made from the same wood as our standard oak worktops. They work well in a traditional kitchen and farmhouse styles. Solid beech cutlery tray inserts have a mellow hue and fine grain pattern. These are our lightest coloured tray inserts and will add a warming shade to the inside of your draw. Our solid iroko cutlery tray inserts are the darkest on offer. This spectacular African timber has a rich bronze colour that becomes darker as it ages and provides a luxurious look. Due to the high oil content, iroko cutlery trays are naturally hygienic.

Soft sweeping curves and washed out colours are what attract people to the fresh and relaxing coastal kitchen style. This coastal kitchen mood board is here to give you some inspiration to create a calm and tranquil room that brings elements of the sea and beach into the home.

Colour

The colours used in a coastal kitchen predominantly reflect those found in the sea. Turquoise, teal, aquamarine and other hues in the blue/green spectrum can be used to impart serenity. In this mood board, we have incorporated several different shades – including Parma Grey by Farrow & Ball, as seen on the Shaker door. Farrow & Ball’s Borrowed Light is a stylish complement for this colour, which is incredibly similar to the wallpaper for a cohesive look.

Elements

The individual elements in this mood board represent a variety of coastal aspects. The Coco Bolo laminate worktop has a pale colour with a distinct pattern. It almost has the appearance of tide marks on a beach or striations on a cliff face. The curved oak bow handles, also pale, mirror the undulation of the sea and complement the patterned Mare wallpaper which emulates tumultuous waves. Shaker doors, with their clean sharp lines, add a contemporary touch whilst still remaining light and fresh. Adding little details, such as a pile of sea glass or some coiled rope, will help tie the design together.

Design

Coastal kitchens should aim to be light and airy. With that in mind, try and let in as much natural light as possible. The light colour palette and pale wood that we have suggested will help to keep the room from feeling dark. Keeping your flooring light is a good idea too. Use pale floor tiles, laminate flooring or floorboards. From a style perspective, this kitchen is brightly coloured and really pops against the perforated metal and white worktop. It is the mixture of materials, such as the stainless steel tap and laminate work surfaces which makes this kitchen feel contemporary and fresh.

The term concept is defined as an experimental model to test the viability of innovative design features. Yes, conceptual kitchens are an idea, they are not supposed to be replicated – at least not entirely. Their purpose is for us to pick and choose ideas that help us live efficient, stylish or environmentally responsible lives.

For anyone who has turned their passion for cooking into a career, a kitchen is of paramount importance. Celebrity kitchens are often both beautiful and practical, but those belonging to television chefs take this to a whole new level. In this blog post, we explore the kitchen of Jamie Oliver.

Located in Essex, Jamie Oliver’s house has a kitchen designed in a traditional style. The cabinets have Shaker doors which have been left exposed so that the natural beauty of the wood can be seen. The huge island is the centrepiece of this kitchen and the large range cooker has some open shelving above it. Whilst we have only seen a small corner of this kitchen, it has a similar style to the studio where he filmed his show, Jamie’s Everyday Superfood.

Papermill studios, the vintage style kitchen space shown here, is similar to Jamie’s kitchen at home – he is obviously a fan of the look. It has equal measures of practicality and stunning aesthetics. At its heart is a huge island which features casters that allow it to be moved into various positions – a great idea if you have space. At the front of the island are 20 large storage drawers made from natural wood. A similar look can be achieved by using our Traditional cabinet frontals with a sanded finish. Fit them with cast iron Brecon cup handles to complete the vintage feel.

This space has large slanted windows allow in maximum natural light which is essential for preparing and cooking food. Light colours have been chosen to reflect all of the light back into the room, and dark surfaces have been used sparingly. This is a great way to achieve a luxurious look using rich timbers without overpowering a space.

At the back of the kitchen, there is yet more valuable worktop space. This wooden worktop has warm tones, much like our iroko worktops, which contrast beautifully with the white walls and cabinet frontals. Set into the worktop is a large single bowl ceramic Belfast sink which adds yet more beauty and practicality. The upstands show great attention to detail and finish the worktop off.

With a huge wall filled with full height cabinetry, storage is clearly not an issue in this space. Open shelving provides additional space to show off fresh and dried herbs and spices as well as a collection of art and china – showing that storage can be utilised for decoration too.
